Sustainability and Innovation
Sustainability at Würth is driven by a focus on circular value creation, the conscious use of resources and the goal of reducing waste and cutting down on emissions. This goal can only be achieved if we gradually abandon the linear economy and non-recyclable production. But what does sustainability mean in connection with occupational safety?
Learn about the Würth Group's Sustainability ProjectsSustainable supply chain
Material health and supply chain of a leather glove
Würth products are produced all over the world. In order to ensure social and ecological conformity and to promote transparency and supplier relations, Würth has agreed in its sustainability strategy to focus on transparency of the supply chain.
Customer health and therefore the safety of the materials used for Würth products is an important topic. The focus is on quality control and transparency in supply chains.
Explore the sustainable supply chain in six steps using the example of a leather glove:
1. From raw skin to leather: The leather in our gloves comes from tanneries audited by Würth.
2. Sewing: The leather comes to the sewing shop where the leather pieces are sorted according to quality, punched and sewn together into a glove.
3. Quality controls: The quality of the glove (e.g. labelling, material thickness, packaging details, chromium VI) is checked by the supplier and by two Würth employees in cooperation with external testing institutes in India.
4. Shipping: The gloves are shipped to Germany by sea in containers. In order to avoid mould formation and maintain consistent quality, air-conditioned containers are used during the monsoon period.
5. Incoming goods at Würth: The gloves are transported by HGV to a Würth Logistics hub near Künzelsau and are spot-checked.
6. Storage and shipping: The gloves are stored and sent to customers when ordered
SKIN LINE Hand Cleaner
Natural ingredients are replacing microplastics.
When you work hard, you can’t worry about getting your hands dirty - and now cleaning them can leave you with a clear conscience! This is because almost all SKIN LINE CLEAN hand cleaners now contain exfoliants made of ground olive stone.
Microplastics in hand cleaners and cosmetics are coming under increasing criticism. The more that enters the environment, especially watercourses and oceans, the more likely it is that the tiny particles will eventually find their way into the stomachs of animals and then into our food chain. Olive stone flour has been used in hand cleaners since 2019 as an environmentally friendly exfoliant.
Olive stones are a renewable raw material and are available in large quantities as a waste product of olive oil pressing. More than 90 % of the world's olive harvest comes from Mediterranean countries, which means short transport routes and a good CO2 balance.
The energy expenditure for processing the stones is low. This does not waste food or feed resources, on the contrary: oil mills are looking for customers for the stones, which are otherwise only used in biogas plants, as fuel or as fertiliser
Olive stone has become a preferred alternative when compared with other natural exfoliants: corn is fibrous and walnut shells have sharp edges. Both can lead to superficial injuries. 60% of the world's harvested walnuts come from the USA and China, so transport would be much more expensive. Olive stones also perform better than walnut shells in terms of biodegradability.
The smooth surface of the olive stone flour has a very gentle effect, feeling very similar on the skin to conventional plastic exfoliants. Allergic reactions have not been observed. With our Natural hand cleaner, Nature hand cleaner and N-Plus hand cleaner, you can scrub your hands and tackle persistent dirt in an environmentally friendly way!

The Würth Group is subsequently minimising packaging volumes and re-designing the packaging to be more recyclable by 2030.
Product packaging plays an important role at Würth: it protects goods, provides information about the product and enables attractive presentation of the products in our branches. However, customer feedback regarding packaging volumes and environmental sustainability have become an increasing concern, and disposal costs are constantly increasing. Resources should therefore no longer be wasted.
In the field of occupational health and safety, marginal changes such as reducing the size of eye protection operating instructions by 30% allows Würth to save more than ten tonnes of paper! Plastic packaging of Andromeda® full-vision goggles is being reduced by 30%, saving 203 kg of packaging waste. By consolidating three adhesive labels into one in the fall arrest product range, Würth is saving 100,000 labels per year (320 m² of labelling). Further projects are in the planning stage. Our approach is one of continuous optimisation and resource saving.
